The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) is the national association representing manufacturers and suppliers of medical technology used in the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and management of disease and disability. The MTAA aims to ensure that the benefits of modern, innovative and reliable medical technologies are delivered effectively to provide better health outcomes to the Australian community.?
MTAA member companies supply most non-pharmaceutical products used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and disability in Australia. MTAA member companies also play a vital role in providing healthcare professionals with essential education and training to ensure safe and effective use of medical technology.?
he MTAA recognises that adherence to the highest ethical standards and compliance with applicable laws are critical to the medical technology industry’s ability to preserve its collaboration with health care professionals. In particular, the MTAA recognises the obligation to facilitate ethical interactions between member companies and health care professionals in order to ensure that medical decisions are made in the best interests of the patient. The ethical principles that govern these interactions along with other matters pertinent to the medical technology industry are the subject of the MTAA’s Code of Practice. ?The stated purpose of the Code of Practice is to “formalise legal and ethical business practices for member companies and promote socially responsible conduct required of companies in this industry sector.”
Without reservation, Zimmer strongly endorses both the letter and the spirit of the MTAA Code of Practice.
